FICTITIOUS CONVERSATION WITH PROBLEM RESOLUTION (INTRODUCTION - PROBLEM SOLVING WITH DIFFERENT ALTERNATIVES (discussion)- CONCLUSION.

Instruccions: Play the roles of a teacher and a parent/caregiver discussing their concerns about how much time their child is spending on their laptops/iPads between use of technology in school and at home.

* the following dialogue is in order of the text.

Parent
(Intro):

My child has been spending a lot of time on his electronic devices which really bothers me. I don't want him to miss out on what our world has to offer because of him "living" in a virtual world and I think that if he spends this much time on his devices for a long time his sight will deteriorate.

Teacher
(Paragraph 1):

Now a days kids spend much of their time on electronic devices, such as laptops or ipads, and that has a lot o parents concerned, not just you. We are in a new era, new generation, new century and we have to learn to adapt to our new opportunities, like electronic devices which help us in our daily tasks. But, they can also be a concern.

(Paragraph 2):

These electronic devices can be really helpful and there for many schools have kids do works on them, because of the many gadgets they have and offer and because it helps in a way reduce the use of paper and work materials used before they were developed.

(Paragraph 3):

A healthy way to use them is to always know our restrictions. We need to know when it's reached a point on which it is damaging for us to used them and then stop, because as long as we use them in a correct way they will always be helpful. That's when the restrictions come, we have to be at a point were we are not totally reliable on them because that is unhealthy and could cost us dearly if they disappear one day.

(Conclusion):

So, if you are worried about the time your son spends on electronic devices, first of all check if he is using them for something productive or for just entertainment, if he is using them for something productive, let him use them as much as he likes. If however he is using them for entertainment just put down some rules, and have a maximum time limit on them so that he can't spend that much time on them.

Parent

(Conclusion):

Thank you, I will start to check on how my son is using these devices and once I know how and for what he uses them I will implement a time limit on counterproductive use. I will try to find the right balance between these two aspects so that I feel that he is not wasting his time.
